What is RFID technology for?

Para qué sirve la tecnología RFID

RFID technology (which means “Radio Frequency Identification”) is an object-to-object identification system that uses radio frequency. This technology allows data encoded on smart RFID tags to be captured by an RFID reader using radio waves.

Its main advantage is the ability to identify individual objects uniquely, quickly and efficiently. The applications of this technology can be seen in multiple business processes, both internal and external. These include, for example, inventory control, traceability, access control to restricted areas, logistics, vehicle control, item tracking, supply chain management, and even the prevention of counterfeiting of certain products.

This technology is widely present among us in a wide variety of sectors. For example, it can be found in clothing or supermarket items, especially in food where it is essential to keep track of processing and expiration dates as well as the corresponding batch number. They are also used by libraries and even in pet chips, identification cards and bank cards.

On the technical side, a number of components are required to be able to identify objects by radio frequency. Simply put, the RFID tag stores information in its internal memory. The RFID antenna receives the information stored in the tag and sends it to the reader. The RFID reader receives the information and transmits it to the computer. In the computer, the data obtained is stored in a database, which can then be analyzed by software.

The RFID system belongs to a broader group of Automatic Identification and Data Capture technologies. The most interesting thing about this type of technology is that it does not require human intervention to identify objects, collect their data and transfer them to a computer system.

What are the benefits of implementing this technology in business processes?

Fundamentally, RFID technology enables the tracking of items and assets in inventory, helping to reduce the costs of manufacturing, distribution, inventory management and merchandise tracking. By automating processes that would otherwise require human intervention, the application of RFID technology frees up employee time to focus on more important issues, such as customer service. In addition, the speed and accuracy of supply chain management is significantly improved. Logically, increasing speed and accuracy brings economic benefits by improving throughput. These factors will also make customers more satisfied by eliminating the inconvenience due to quantity and timing failures.

Compared to similar technologies, such as the traditional barcode, RFID technology is far superior. In this sense, the RFID tag is much more resistant to deterioration, because it uses radio waves instead of ink marks, and its reading does not require contact. It is also capable of storing a larger volume of data about the item in question than the barcode can. They also have a longer range and can be read more quickly. Finally, RFID technology makes the tags very difficult to duplicate, which also increases their security.

In Dimensiona we have YAX RFID, a solution to optimize productivity and automation of your warehouse and store. YAX technology allows you to obtain real-time product information, control stock intelligently and keep all data under maximum security. YAX has solutions that allow you to contemplate all the processes that are part of the business, such as merchandise identification, packaging, storage, order assembly, distribution to points of sale, stock control, product location, and preparation of products for sale.

From the use of RFID technology you can generate the latest generation tags to place on your products and thus achieve greater efficiency in controlling your inventory. Contact us for more information!
